2019 junior Hog Deer hunter ballot open

2019 junior Hog Deer hunter ballot open

Junior deer hunters have the opportunity to take a Hog Deer hind at the Para Park Co-operative Game Reserve on Sunday Island in April next year.

Hunters aged between 12 and 17 years (as at April 30, 2019) who hold a junior shooter’s licence are invited to enter the ballot to participate in a guided hunt.

The hunt is open to those who have not hunted previously under the ballot system on the island and will be in the managed hunting area.

Each junior hunter drawn from the ballot will be allocated a hunting period and will be allowed to take one female Hog Deer selected by the guide.

They will be required to attend a briefing day on the island in early 2019 where they will need to pass a competency test with the rifle that will be used on the weekend of the hunt (minimum calibre .243).

The test will involve firing two rounds from a bench at 100m into a Hog Deer silhouette. It is suggested that hunters become proficient at achieving a 10cm grouping at that range from a supported position (ie. bench, bipod or day pack).
