The 2022 duck season arrangements have finally been announced, however, the Saturday lunchtime release of the arrangements certainly raises additional questions.
For a government that has an official policy of support for sustainable duck hunting, the delayed announcement and weekend release seems to indicate it is actively attempting to hide that fact. The arrangements appear to be in line with the recommendations the Association understands were put to government by GMA back in January. Why it has taken so long to formally adopt and announce the recommendations remain the major questions for government.
SSAA Victoria supports the transition to science-based season setting arrangements for duck hunting in Victoria. If properly implemented, it is expected that process should allow hunters to know what the season arrangements will be much earlier, without any requirement for the annual political decision-making farce that has developed.
The 2022 season will commence on Wednesday, March 16 at 8am and concludes 30 minutes after sunset on June 13. The first five days of the season will be subject to an 8am start. The bag limit is four birds per day. Australasian (Blue-winged) Shoveler and Hardhead cannot be taken.
