Choose your Senate carefully

SSAA Victoria President, Denis Moroney

The SSAA Victoria State Office has been fielding many calls from members seeking advice and direction as we approach the Federal Election. I acknowledge all of you who understand the importance of this election and are taking seriously this opportunity to shape our political environment.

The changes to the Upper House (Senate) voting system have presented a new challenge and opportunity for our members this year. Many members have approached the State Office and me over the past few days, looking for more detailed advice about voting in the Upper House.

When it comes to voting in the Senate, you have two options: vote for six people above the line or 12 below the line. I strongly encourage you all to vote below the line to increase the value of your vote.

I would like to suggest in this article that we, the members of the SSAA Victoria, support those candidates who have demonstrated their support for us, regardless of which political party they belong to.

With this in mind, I suggest the following candidates have earned our vote:

  • Bridget McKenzie
  • Ricky Muir
  • Rebecca Treloar
  • Duncan Spender
  • Ethan Constantinou
  • Aaron Mackley
  • Jake Wilson
  • Garry Kerr
  • Phil Larkin
  • David Limbrick

There are 10 names listed in this article. I have left two positions vacant for you to select two other candidates of your own choice. It is imperative that you select 12 names below the line for your vote to be valid.

All the best.
