It is now just days until the 2022 Federal Election.
With a State Election also due in Victoria in late November, the SSAA State Office is hard at work ensuring that we achieve the best possible results for shooters and hunters in Victoria.
SSAA’s National Office has prepared advice for shooters to consider before casting their vote. As we have seen there is an increasing level of coordination between the States and a push by Federal bureaucrats to restrict responsible firearm ownership further. Nothing happens in isolation and bad ideas don’t stop at State borders.
The SSAA National Office is advocating strongly for the reinstatement of the Commonwealth Firearms Advisory Committee (CFAC) so that, regardless of who is in power, decision-makers have an opportunity to consult properly with the stakeholders who bear the cost of poor decisions. SSAA approached a wide range of political parties and candidates, seeking their views on important issues concerning shooting and hunting. Whilst we don’t tell shooters who they should vote for, the advice from The SSAA National Office about who not to vote for is important
“Our only advice would be to again ask that you put the Greens last. Their continual attacks and utter refusal to engage with the law-abiding firearms community speaks volumes about how they see all of us”.
SSAA received responses from both a range of political parties and from one individual candidate running in Victoria, Senator Bridget McKenzie from the Nationals. Senator McKenzie has been a vociferous supporter of shooters and hunters in the Australian Parliament.

We will keep members informed if and when more parties and candidates engage with SSAA.
