SSAA Victoria has been advised by the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR) that the fox and wild dog bounty program is continuing for the 2019/20 financial year.
Collections for 2020 recommenced on March 10 at Ballarat. Details about the program, including conditions, collection dates and collection points are available on the Agriculture Victoria website.
The Association participated in a survey reviewing the program and advocated for an increase to the dollar figure being paid to hunters under the bounty program.
Further funding for the bounty will be determined during the 2020/21 Victorian Government Budget announcement in May 2020.
SSAA Victoria will advise members when details are released and would hope to see a significant increase in the amount paid to hunters. The Association understands that the bounty is not established to cover the full costs incurred by hunters controlling foxes and wild dogs. However, it should be set at a level that reimburses some of the expense and reasonably encourages hunters to remove these destructive species from the environment.
