SSAA Victoria has applauded the Victorian Government for working with the shooting sector to develop the state’s most comprehensive game hunting manual.
The new manual – Game Hunting in Victoria: A manual for responsible and sustainable hunting – will be mailed to all Victorian Game Licence-holders in the coming weeks.
Last year Game Management Authority (GMA) established a working group to provide advice and direction on the development of the new resource, which will replace the Victorian Hunting Guide.
“Sporting shooters too often find they are locked out of important discussions with regulators and authorities, but this is a prime example of the right way to go about things,” SSAA Victoria Chief Executive Officer Jack Wegman said.
“The shooting sector was consulted throughout the development of this manual and the end result is a comprehensive resource for new and experienced hunters. I will be encouraging anyone interested in trying hunting to pick up a copy of the manual and read it thoroughly before going for a hunt. I hope other SSAA Victoria members do the same.”
GMA Chairman Brian Hine said the new manual was an important milestone that demonstrated the State Government’s commitment to responsible hunting in Victoria.
“The new manual was developed … to assist game hunters in acting safely, sustainably, humanely and legally,” he said. “Delivered as part of the Victorian Government’s Sustainable Hunting Action Plan 2016-2020, the new comprehensive manual outlines the current laws, firearms safety, hunting methods and equipment, ethics, survival skills and provides improved education and training for game hunters.”
Hunters are reminded to keep their personal copy of the new manual in a safe place as it will not be mailed out annually. To view the electronic version click here.
Hard copies of the manual will also be available from some Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning; Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources; and GMA offices.
