Gun Control Australia’s new low

Every time the community thinks Gun Control Australia (GCA) has stooped to its lowest, the lobby group manages to dig even deeper.

This week SSAA-Legislative Action wrote to members about GCA using Walter Mikac who lost his family in the Port Arthur murders “as a political pawn in a shameless money-grabbing and pot-stirring exercise”.

His face splashed across News Corp’s Herald Sun, Walter spread misinformation about a 100-year-old style firearm, while attempting to make its legal importation and ownership by licensed shooters an election issue.

But GCA’s most concerning action of late is deliberately using the name ‘Gun Control Party’ on its donations page, despite not being a registered political party with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).

The group is also not a registered charity. It remains unclear how donations will be spent, with the option to easily donate up to $2500 on its fundraising page.

This revelation coincides with GCA launching its national advertising campaign in News Corp publications this week. The advertisement is all red, with a silhouette of a firearm saying, “8 rounds, 8 seconds, Does Australia need the Adler A110?”

A counter-campaign launched by SSAA on social media has already been seen by thousands of people. Firearms owners across the country are encouraged to share the graphic with their friends and families. SSAA_meme
