Hunting Opportunities

SSAA Victoria advocated strongly to have Covid-19 restrictions on hunters lifted. With freedom of movement and the ability to camp reinstated, hunters now have plenty of options this long weekend, with duck, deer, quail and feral species all available.

Hunters are reminded of the requirements to maintain social distancing, especially in boats, vehicles and campsites.

Duck hunters are particularly encouraged to make the most of the last weekend of the 2020 season. The shortened season closes 30 minutes after sunset on Monday 8 June 2020. The modified daily bag limit of three game ducks per day applies for the entire season and hunting the Blue-winged Shoveler is prohibited for the 2020 season.

The 2020 Stubble Quail Season continues over the weekend and closes on Tuesday 30 June 2020.  The bag limit is a maximum of 20 birds per day.

Sambar hunting, both stalking and hounds, along with Fallow and Red deer stalking is back in full swing with the lifting of remote camping restrictions. Bag limits do not apply to those deer species, but the Association expects members to act ethically and only take what they can utilise when recreational hunting.

Members are also encouraged to submit photos of their hunting trips for sharing with other members. Photos can be of any subject matter relating to hunting or shooting. Any photos depicting dead animals should be tasteful and show respect for the animal.

Good hunting.
