New Appointments to the GMA Board

The Agriculture Minister, Jaclyn Symes, has announced the appointment of three new Game Management Authority board members. Dr Bronwyn Orr, Corrie Goodwin and Owen Cavanough are each appointed for a term of three years. Ian Maxfield has also been reappointed to the GMA Board for another term.

SSAA Victoria welcomes the new board members to their role.

The GMA’s Facebook page stated: “The new appointments bring the board membership to eight Directors, increasing the diversity of the skills and experience with country Victoria-based members, gender equality and knowledge in animal welfare, hunting, finance and regulatory practice.”

Dr Orr’s background in animal welfare has already engendered considerable discussion around her appointment within broader hunting circles.

Animal welfare is, and always has been, a priority consideration for all ethical hunters. SSAA Victoria supports, in principle, practical and reasonable initiatives that can demonstrably improve animal welfare outcomes in hunting.

The Association also supports appropriate animal welfare expertise on the GMA board and looks forward to observing Dr Orr’s positive contribution in that area over the next three years.

SSAA Victoria would particularly like to express its appreciation to the outgoing inaugural board members, Margaret Donnan and Mark Little, for their contribution to the Board since its inception.
