SSAA Victoria is in State Parliament all this week advocating on behalf of shooters and hunters.
In meetings with Government, Opposition and Crossbench MPs, the Association is having fruitful discussions about the united approach that Victoria’s peak shooting organisations are taking to the state election and the flood of emails from SSAA Victoria members about appearance laws.
State Election
As we announced earlier this month, Victoria’s three peak shooting and hunting organisations are looking to the 2022 State Election with a united approach aimed at securing.
- Improved and increased public land access for hunters
- More support to manage and grow game hunting
- More shooting facilities and improvements to make Victoria’s current shooting facilities more accessible
- Sound, evidence-based settings for duck hunting
- Mechanisms to ensure that firearm regulation is fit for purpose and does not impose any more unnecessary restrictions on law-abiding firearm owners
- Shooting sports to be showcased in the 2026 Commonwealth Games
Appearance Laws
SSAA Victoria understands that Jeff Bourman’s bill to remove appearance laws will be debated this Friday. Whilst the bill has little prospect of success this time, the email campaign conducted by SSAA Victoria has resulted in over 9,000 emails being sent to Victoria’s Upper House MPs in support of firearm laws that work for firearm owners. This sends a powerful message in the lead-up to the November election.
Working productively for shooting
As Victoria’s premier shooting organisation, SSAA Victoria has well-established, trusted relationships across the political spectrum and regularly meets with decision-makers to advance the interests of Victoria’s 220,000+ shooters.
