Victoria Police Licensing and Regulation Division (LRD) has provided an update on handgun participation requirements for 2022.
Participation requirements were waived in 2020 and 2021 due to the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated lockdowns.
Whilst participation requirements have returned to ‘normal’ for 2022, LRD has acknowledged that the current shortages of reloading components and, in some cases, ammunition are making it impractical for some shooters to complete the required number of competitions. Accordingly, LRD has supported modifying competition shoots to reduce the number of rounds needed to be expended if they are still ‘meaningful’ competitions (e.g., not a single round or nearest the bullseye etc.).
Shooters with genuine reasons for not meeting participation requirements can apply for Modification (Variation) or Exemption from Handgun participation. More details can be found on the Victoria Police website.
