Victorian hunting maps coming soon

New maps which clearly show where hunting is permitted in Victoria are due early in the New Year and hunters have the opportunity to provide input.

SSAA Victoria’s Hunting Development Manager David Laird was among the key stakeholder representatives consulted during the production of the maps to help ensure the content was relevant to hunters.

“This is an initiative under the Sustainable Hunting Action Plan and the maps will be a great tool for hunters to clarify where hunting is permitted,” he said.

“One of the most common questions we get at state office is where members can hunt so it’s extremely pleasing that it is nearing completion.”

Mr Laird said the task has been complicated and a huge amount of work has been put in to develop the maps, which will have a lot more detail than the maps currently available through the Game Management Authority website.

“Key stakeholders, including SSAA Victoria, were briefed on Thursday and shown how the mapping program will work,” he said.

“The level of detail is very good and the maps will show where you can hunt different species of deer, ducks and pest animals.

“Several suggestions were made regarding improving user friendliness and a workshop will be held in the next few weeks to trial the operation of the programs by user groups in more depth.”

The maps are expected to be available in electronic and downloadable print versions, and user trials will be conducted as a final check before the maps go live.
