SSAA Victoria operates two ranges close to Melbourne – the Springvale Range in southeast metropolitan Melbourne and the Eagle Park Range at Little River between Melbourne and Geelong. Both ranges are open to members and non-members. Springvale and Eagle Park are home to several sub-clubs with interests in a variety of shooting disciplines. Metropolitan
- Springvale Springvale Shooting Range is open every day of the week. The facility, which includes a licensed bar, lounge and restaurant, caters to .22LR rimfire rifles at 50m. It also has 25-50m pistol ranges and a 10m air rifle range. The range hosts several competitions throughout the week. It also caters to corporate and group bookings, such as scout groups, birthday parties and community activities. The 50m main range is available to the public and members. Unlicensed shooters are welcome to use the facility under the guidance of our experienced Range Officers/instructors. All visitors to the range will be inducted and instructed on the safe handling and use of firearms. Loan firearms are available at the range. Rimfire rifles other than .22LR are not permitted to be used at any time. Joining SSAA at the range will give you free range entry for that day. (it is recommended that new shooters arrive at least two hours prior to closing time to ensure that there is room on the range). Range Rules Before heading down to the range, please familiarise yourself with the below range rules: Ear protection is mandatory on all SSAA Victoria ranges. Eye protection is mandatory for all juniors (under 18) and recommended for all persons using a firearm. Closed-toe shoes must be worn on the firing line. Excessively open-neck tops are not permitted on the firing line (including singlets) except for the public main range. The minimum age for shooters is 12 years old. Juniors (aged 12 to 17) require adult supervision to shoot and a consent form must be completed at the range by a parent/guardian. No prohibited person is allowed to use the range facilities for shooting. Eye and ear protection is available for sale at the Springvale Range. The cost is from $70.00 and includes the following: (ID is required on entry - pictures of ID will not be accepted) Entrance into the range. Public liability insurance. Loan of a .22 rifle. A target. Ear plugs. Approximately two hours of shooting (depending on how fast you shoot or if you purchase more ammunition). Ammunition 50 rounds. Extra ammunition is available to purchase from $14 for 50. Instruction and supervision from a qualified and experienced Range Officer. Bookings are not required unless your group exceeds 10 plus or you require special needs or private coaching. Pistol The range offers a variety of packages for unlicensed visitors to experience handgun shooting. The 'Come and Try' pistol shoot costs from $250 per person and includes: Entrance into the range. Public liability insurance. The use of three firearms (.22LR Beretta 87 Target, CZ75 SP-01 Shadow and/or Glock) and 100 rounds (50 x.22lr and 50x9mm Luger). Option to add the use of a Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum for an additional $67 (price correct at 21 November 2024 and subject to change without notice). Instruction and supervision from a qualified and experienced Range Officer. Ear plugs and eye protection. Booking are essential through the range on 8892 2782. - Eagle Park The Eagle Park Range in Little River caters to all disciplines, including pistol, shotgun and large-calibre rifles. The main rifle range is open to members and the general public from 9am to 5pm Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The main public range is certified for all calibre rifles, including 50 BMG, to a distance of 500m. With 100 benches along its covered and concreted firing line, there is room for everyone at Eagle Park. Shotgun shooting is also available on the main public range, with a clay target thrower set up at the end of the firing line. Members can use the thrower during normal business hours. Clays can be purchased in batches of 25 from $12. Joining SSAA at the range will give you free range entry for that day. https://youtu.be/PprHwKzslHI PUBLIC 5-STAND The five stand range is open on: Saturdays - 10am to 4pm - Non-licensed and licensed shooters (Non-licensed shooters are welcome at the 5 Stand and Main Range any day during normal operating hours, provided they are under the direct supervision of a licensed friend or family member. The Saturday "Non-licensed" option is specifically for those who do not have a licensed shooter accompanying them—these sessions are supervised by SSAA Victoria staff). You must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol whilst shooting. You must not be a prohibited person. Minimum age 12 years. Dress: Appropriate clothing and enclosed footwear - no thongs or sandals, no singlets or tank tops. rimfire package Visitors without a firearms licence are welcome to come and try shooting a .22 rifle on Saturdays. Centrefire package Visitors without a firearms licence are welcome to come and try shooting centrefire rifles on Saturdays. Bookings are required one week in advance of your shoot day. The cost is from $297.00 and includes the following: (ID is required on entry – pictures of ID will not be accepted) Entrance into the range. Public liability insurance. Loan of .22 rifle (rimfire) + .223 and .308 (centrefire) rifles 3 targets and use of a target frame. Hearing and eye protection. Approximately two hours of shooting (depending on how fast you shoot). Ammunition - 25 rounds of .22LR, 10 rounds of .223 and 10 rounds of .308. Instruction and supervision from a qualified and experienced Range Officer. Bookings will only proceed when a minimum of two people have booked in for a session. There is a maximum of five bookings per session. Full payment is required at the time of booking. Cancellations must be made before 12 noon on the Friday before the booking for a full refund. Cancellations after this point incur an $80 administration fee. No-shows forfeit their booking fee. Regional
- Bendigo The Bendigo Branch caters for rifle, shotgun and pistol shooting and offers a program for families (SAFFE). The range at Marong has 23 benches to 200m and three shotgun positions. Members and Visitors have access to toilets and free use of earmuffs, safety glasses, sandbags, rests, target frames, silhouettes, resetting targets, spotting scopes, clay throwers, staplers and tools. The Bendigo Branch is heavily involved in pest management of the local area. Calibre restrictions: No 50 Cal BMG or Cheytac ammunition. - Cobaw (Kyneton) The Kyneton Branch caters for rimfire, centrefire, shotgun shooting at its Cobaw Range. The Branch has 100m and 200m ranges. Members and visitors have access to toilets and fresh water. The Cobaw range was certified for centrefire in 2016. Our range is run by a committee of volunteers. Directions: From Lancefield, head north along the Lancefield-Tooborac Road. Turn left at the Burke and Wills Track and head northwest about 9km, then turn left at Ridge Road and left again onto Reillys Road. Head south for about 1.8km until you reach Greenway Track. Turn left down Greenway Track and the entrance to the range is the first right. CLOSED IN SHOES TO BE WORN BY ALL ATTENDEES AT THE RANGE. General Shooting 2nd and 4th Saturday each month 9am to 12pm and 1pm to close with no new shooters after 3pm Lunch is 12pm to 1pm. We have a sausage sizzle. Sausage with/without onions are $3. - Bonang The Bonang Branch is predominantly focused on rifle shooting. Members of Bonang shoot rimfire and centrefire field rifle and rimfire silhouette. The range facilities are basic, without running water or toilets, but there is a shed and plenty of trees for shelter. There are six lanes on the firing line, out to 200m. Calibre restrictions: No 50 Cal BMG.
- Nhill The Nhill Branch is a field shooting group that conducts rabbit and fox shoots when required. The Branch also has a shotgun and pistol ranges. The shotgun range caters to sporting clay and field shooting. The pistol club range is 50m and caters for all calibres, falling plate and paper.
- Daylesford The Daylesford Branch contains 17 shooting bays for pistol shooting to 25m. Meetings are held on the third Saturday of the month at the range.
- East Gippsland The range has 12 lanes with concrete benches, from 25m to 500m, and caters to all calibres. Male and female toilets, running water, shelter and a picnic area provided. The range is located on the Bruthen Buchan Road, 18km from the Buchan Caves turn-off on Bruthen Nowa Nowa Road, when heading to Buchan Caves. It is on the right-hand side after crossing T-tree Creek twice. Calibre limitations: All calibres allowed, including 50 cal BMG. - Wodonga The Wodonga Branch caters for rifle, shotgun and pistol shooting, as well as smokeless and black powder. The range goes out to 300m. Also available to members and visitors are the clubrooms, toilets and camping area. Calibre restrictions: No 50 Cal BMG.
- Portland SSAA Victoria – Portland Pistol Club We are a Family friendly club and are open to all members and none members who would like to try pistol shooting in a safe environment. - Warrnambool The Warrnambool Branch is a shotgun-only branch for people who enjoy sporting clays. The facilities include toilets, clubrooms with power, running water, air-conditioning and heating. General shoots are carried out on the first Sunday of the month. The Branch also works closely with Sporting Clays Australia, hosting nationals, state titles, world championships and international events.
- Mildura The Mildura Branch was established in 1987. After suitable land was found, a team of volunteers worked to set up the Cardross range, and shooting began in 1990. The Branch contains ranges to 100m, 300m and 600m. Facilities include a barbecue and clubrooms. Visitors must contact the branch for a suitable time to attend the range. Calibre limitations: All calibres allowed, including 50 cal BMG.
- Shepparton The Shepparton Branch caters for rifle, shotgun and pistol shooting, with ranges to 300m. Facilities include an air-conditioned clubhouse, hot food and toilets. New shooters are welcome to come to the range on open days. Calibre limitations: No 50 Cal BMG. The Shepparton range is open. Contact the club for opening times and conditions of entry.
- Hamilton Six-bench rifle shooting area to 500m and 10-stand shotgun layout. The Hamilton range is available for rimfire, centrefire and shotgun shooting. A clubhouse and canteen area are also available to members and visitors. Calibre limitations: Up to 30 calibre
