Europe will soon celebrate Game Meat Week, recognising the value of wild, sustainable, free-range game as both a cultural tradition and a responsible source of food.
Closer to home, SSAA Victoria is leading that conversation.
On Thursday, 20 November, SSAA Victoria will host the third annual Hunters for the Hungry BBQ at Victorian Parliament House, bringing together Members of Parliament, community leaders and food relief partners to showcase what ethical hunters have always known:
- Wild-shot game meat is a natural, healthy, iron-rich, and high-protein option.
- It is harvested with respect, supporting biodiversity and sustainable wildlife management.
- It is an untapped resource that can help alleviate food insecurity, which currently impacts one in four Victorian households.
With sensible regulatory reform, Victorian hunters can play a meaningful role in feeding vulnerable families, reducing waste, delivering more lean, iron-rich protein into the food relief network, and directly linking responsible game management with community wellbeing.
As Game Meat Week gains international attention, Victoria can show how wild food delivers real social benefit from the field to the dinner table.
We look forward to again demonstrating that potential at Parliament House, and to continue working with Government to unlock a future where wild-shot venison is not just a waste product of deer control, but a valued resource with real impact for real people.
