Petition to have fair rates for utes on Melbourne’s toll roads

Have a look around the car park at a SSAA Victoria range and you will invariably see a good number of utes.

Four-wheel drive utes are the vehicle of choice for lots of shooters due to their versatility and practicality. For hunters in particular, a four-wheel drive is a necessity to safely access public land and private properties for hunting.

Melbourne toll road operators for Citylink and EastLink, have different rates for light commercial vehicles, which include utes, as opposed to four-wheel drive wagons. This applies whether a vehicle is privately owned or not. Compared to driving a wagon, it is 46 per cent more expensive for a casual ute user to drive on CityLink.

A petition on the Victorian Parliament website is calling for a change to the classification of privately owned utes on Melbourne’s toll roads.
