Shooters called to boycott Goodyear

Liberal Democrats Senator David Leyonhjelm is calling on shooters to get behind an international boycott of Goodyear and its brands, after the company sacked one of its employees for “just being a shooter”.

Elite Australian sporting shooter David Waters was sacked last year after meeting a fellow sporting shooter during his lunch-break at his office basement carpark. His friend was seeking help fitting an accessory to a target rifle and, unbeknownst to David, brought the rifle to the meeting.

The rifle was completely safe, having the bolt and magazine removed, but police were called. No laws were broken and yet Mr Waters was summarily dismissed.

Senator Leyonhjelm said his dismissal was upheld by a “left-wing” Commissioner in Australia’s Fair Work Commission last week.

“This decision is ridiculous,” Senator Leyonhjelm said. “The rifle was effectively an inert steel tube, and David Waters wasn’t even responsible for it being there.

“This kangaroo court has made its decision, now it’s time for the court of public opinion to decide what they think about it. I am calling on shooters around the world to vote with their wallets and buy brands other than Goodyear, Dunlop and Beaurepaire until such time as they make suitable reparations.

“I will be speaking about this in parliament, and urging shooters to let Goodyear know about their displeasure and to share this message on their networks.”
